Access Statement for Kings Down Tail Caravan and Camping Park
Our aim is to ensure all our visitors enjoy their stay on our park, and that they are made to feel safe, secure and welcome.
We are always on hand to assist in any way we can.
The aim of this access statement is to inform a prospective visitor to our park of our surroundings and facilities within the park.
Our current facilities are as follows
Our park consists of touring pitches, which are suitable for touring caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and tents, and 50 Seasonal pitches. All of our pitches are level, many have hard standings and there are several grass pitches.
We have a website that contains comprehensive up to date information on the park.

The entrance to our park leads directly off the main A3052; this makes access to the park simple and straight forward as guests do not have to travel down any of the narrow “Devon lanes”.
Within the park signage directs guest arrivals to our shop and reception building which has a level parking area in front of it.
The shop and reception building has level access and wide double doors which allow easy access for guests using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Within the building there is ample space for wheelchairs The resident owners are always on hand to offer assistance if required.
Once registered, our guests are advised of their assigned pitch and shown to it. Although we have numbered pitches guests are often able to choose from the available pitches, (this may not be possible in peak periods such as Sidmouth Folk Festival and bank holidays as we receive bookings of multiple units who wish to be together, which we do our best to accommodate).
Parking is normally within guest pitches.
All our facilities within the park are clearly signed with green signs with large white lettering.
The road within the park is level tarmac; these roads have a speed limit of 5mph which is clearly indicated by signs at the park entrance.
We have a level tent field which is accessed from the main park by a surfaced tarmac roadway which leads through a gateway into the field.
Our laundry room is situated in an enclosed area between the female and disabled toilet and shower facilities in the central area of the park.
Within the laundry room the floor is level with a non-slip surface.
Facilities within the laundry room include a front loading washing machine, and separate tumble dryer, there is a stainless steel sinks for hand washing . An iron and ironing board can be borrowed form reception
Toilet and shower block – ladies
The ladies’ toilets and showers are situated in the centre of the park and has level access.
The floor within the whole of the ladies’ toilet and shower facilities is level and has a non-slip surface.
Facilities within the ladies’ showers include 4 toilets and 2 additional toilet cubicles which include washbasins. There are also 4 shower cubicles. In the communal area there are 5 washbasins, The showers and hot water are free of charge.
Other facilities within the shower block include:
1 hair dryer (require 20 pence pieces for meter)
5 head and shoulders only mirrors
2 Warm air hand dryers
Toilet – shower block- gents
The other side of the central block is the gents’ toilet and shower facilities.
There is one step at the entrance 77cm wide
The flooring throughout the gents’ toilet and shower facilities is level and non-slip
Facilities within the gents’ include 3 toilets, 3 standard height urinals, and one lower level one, and 1 additional toilet cubicle which includes a washbasin. There are also 4 shower cubicles. In the communal area there are 4 washbasins, The showers and hot water are free of charge.
Other facilities within the shower block include:
- 2 electric shaver sockets
- 4 head and shoulders only mirrors – 140cm
- Warm air hand dryer
Our purpose built disabled wet room facility is attached to the central toilet block it contains a shower and a toilet.
There is level access
Entry to this facility is via a key which can be obtained from reception.
Unisex toilet and shower rooms
In addition to the main toilet and shower facilities we have 3 unisex wet rooms, each containing a toilet, hand-basin, mirror and shower. These facilities are for adults only.
We also have a family bathroom which includes a bath, shower, hand basin and toilet. Hot water in this facility is controlled by a slot meter, which gives 15 minutes of hot water.
For the convenience of our guests staying in ‘pod’ field there are two toilets and hand basins (cold water only) located there.
During peak periods such as the Sidmouth Folk Festival we also open additional toilet , shower and laundry facilities near the entrance to the park. The access to these blocks is via steps.
Washing up facilities
These are located in the central block and consist of 4 stainless steel sinks with ample free hot water, and waste bins.
Children’s play We have a “pirate themed” play area incorporating a large pirate ship, swings (including ones specifically for toddlers) two climbing frames, a ‘hideaway’ with look-out tower and a toddlers’ playhouse. All the apparatus is surrounded by safety flooring and the remaining area of the play area is grassed.
At one side of the children’s play area is a fenced off area containing football nets and basketball hoops.
There is also a picnic bench within the play area.
We have a games room, containing pool and table tennis tables which is located near the entrance to the park.
An indoor play area for young children is found between the shop and the play park. This is furnished with toys and games particularly suitable for under 5s, and we ask that children are always supervised by an adult while using this. It is normally locked when not in use, and a key is available form reception.
We have a grass lane to the north of the park which is available for dog exercising. The lane is accessed via a small gap below the entrance to the ladies showers.
Of the 120 pitches 100 have 10amp electric hook up points,
There are 9 water points and 4 waste water points situated at intervals around the park. All the water on the park is suitable for drinking.
There is a chemical disposal point located near the mens’ toilets in the central block.
There are 2 refuse disposal points 1 each end of the park which contain general refuse bins and recycling for card, plastics, paper and glass.
There are 5 fire points
Pitches are principally allocated on arrival. Particular preferences can be taken in to account.
Near the entrance to the park there is a motorhome point, with fresh water, waste water disposal and chemical disposal.
The park is approximately 5 acres.
There is some tree and shrub planting to break up the area of the park.
The park is sheltered by mature trees.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, except when on the dog run.

There is a bus stop located at the entrance to the park timetables for which are available from reception. During the summer season the free “Sidmouth Hopper” bus stops at the site – the bus stop for this is near the entrance, next to the motor home point.
